The Coordination and Crisis Management Center has issued a red alert for these regions, warning of unprecedented flooding since 1967.
The capital, Bamako, is particularly vulnerable, with districts like Kalaban Coro, Djikoroni Para, Badalabougou, and Cite du Niger facing serious threats. Other regions, including Koulikoro, Segou, San, Djenne, Mopti, Timbuktu, and Dire, are also at high risk.
The Minister of Security and Civil Protection has urged populations living near rivers to evacuate immediately due to the rapid rise in water levels and expected additional inflows. The recent torrential rains have caused flooding in 19 regions of Mali, affecting over 200,000 people and resulting in 65 deaths.
The Ségou region has been hit the hardest, with 79,169 people affected. Mali Meteo forecasts predict continued rain and storm activity, increasing the risk of flooding in already affected areas.
Local authorities and humanitarian organizations are mobilized to provide assistance and coordinate relief efforts. The Coordination and Crisis Management Center is calling for national and international solidarity to support the victims of this devastating crisis.
