The umbrella Front for Safeguarding Democracy (FSD) on Monday issued a statement in Bamako demanding Prime Minister Maiga’s “immediate resignation” over his government’s supposed inability to prevent the massacre.
Saturday’s attack in Ogassagou left 134 dead among residents of the Fulani village located in central Mali.
“We demand the immediate resignation of the Prime Minister,” the leader of the opposition Soumaila Cisse declared on behalf of the FSD, calling into question the supposed inability of the authorities to ensure the safety of the population.
Dismissing the dissolution of the Dana Amassagou milita and the sacking of the Army Chief of Staff in the aftermath of the attacks, Mr. Cisse said the corrective measures must go beyond these with international investigations opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy and bring the culprits to book.
