The Malian Armed Forces General Staff has announced the neutralisation of two jihadist leaders during separate operations conducted on January 26 and 27, 2025, in the regions of Timbuktu and Ségou.
According to a statement received by APA, an operation carried out on January 27 in the Kolongo area, in central Mali’s Ségou region, led to the elimination of Amadou Bolly and several of his associates. The intervention took place across multiple locations, including Niaro, Nassambougou, Maninie, N’djibala, Boki Were, and Kononga.
In northern Mali, another operation was conducted on January 26 in the Echell area, north of Niafunké, resulting in the neutralisation of Abou Azimane.
The Malian forces reported seizing military equipment and materials used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In the Kolongo area, they also recovered stockpiles of food, including 87 bags of unprocessed rice and 42 bags of millet from an abandoned base in Kalangorola, near Bewani.
The Timbuktu operation additionally led to the interception of a DJI drone bearing the markings “CSP-DPA,” a label previously used by the northern armed group alliance, now known as the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).
These interventions are part of ongoing military operations in Mali. Earlier this month, on January 3, Malian forces announced the arrest of Mahamad Ould Erkehile, also known as Abou Rakia, identified as a senior member of the Islamic State in the Sahel, near Bourem in the Gao region.
