A convoy of the United Nations Mission was attacked on Wednesday morning in northern Mali.
This is a new drama within the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). The attack attributed to terrorists led to the death of a peacekeeper on Wednesday morning in the northern town of Kidal.
“Their convoy came under direct fire with small arms and RPGs (rocket launchers) for about an hour,” the MINUSMA Spokesman, Olivier Salgado has announced.
Deployed in 2013, the MINUSMA is composed of 16,500 people including 10,700 soldiers. It is the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in the country that has suffered the most casualties with 172 of its peacekeepers dead while on duty.
