President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani of Mauritania expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The exchange also highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Mali and Mauritania and their commitment to regional development projects.
The Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) is a key player in promoting economic development and sustainable water management in the region. Both Mali and Mauritania are members of the OMVS.
The envoy emphasized the importance of continuing major infrastructure projects, such as the navigation of the Senegal River and the construction of hydroelectric dams, to support the region’s economic growth. The OMVS Climate Investment Plan also aims to strengthen the resilience of member countries to climate change.
Colonel Assimi Goïta reaffirmed Mali’s support for OMVS projects and thanked President El Ghazouani for his message of solidarity.
