Kigalians told APA that the quake was mild, and that a few tremors were felt in the ensuing half an hour.
This is the third earthquake ever felt in Rwanda within a period of ten years.
In 2008, a series of earthquakes damaged up to 45 schools and health centres, putting 27,000 children out of school.
Up to 37 people were killed and 646 injured in southwest Rwanda
The quakes, which was felt then across several countries of the Great Lakes region, had a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale in Rwanda.
According to experts, earthquakes are common in the western Great Rift Valley due to the presence of a seismically active fault line which straddles western Uganda, eastern DR Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania.
