The Malian delegation comprises the Minister of Territorial Administration, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulaye Diop, and five other ministers. The Niger delegation is led by the Minister of National Defence, Lieutenant General Salifou Modi.
Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs believes that the Ouagadougou meeting is a “major turning point” for the AES, given the geopolitical and geostrategic realities of the day.
According to our sources, the meeting will focus in particular on the texts governing the AES and the creation of the confederation bringing together the three countries.
Senior officials met from 12 to 14 February 2024 in Ouagadougou, ahead of the meeting of ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States.
In mid-September 2023, Burkina, Mali and Niger adopted the Liptako-Gourma Charter, founding the Alliance of Sahel States.
