The Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (Minusca) Thursday, feted the men and women of the Senegalese Attack Helicopter Unit within the UN force.
“These eight women and 92 men whom we honor today have been recognized as worthy of receiving the United Nations medal in recognition of their work and contribution to the fulfillment of the Minusca’s mandate,” Mankeur Ndiaye, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chief of MINUSCA said in a statement on Thursday.
The former Senegalese Foreign Minister who was speaking at a ceremony held last Tuesday in Bangui in the presence of General Joseph Mamadou Diop, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force of Senegal congratulated the Commander of this unit for his leadership and “laudable work” but also the recipients for their dedication, professionalism, team spirit and sacrifices.
Ndiaye also commended “the work of reconnaissance, intelligence and air strikes when necessary” of Senegal’s attack helicopter unit, which contributes to protecting CAR civilians, and UN personnel and property.
For all these reasons, he renewed “UN encouragement for the determination and commitment shown for the protection of the civilian population and in the best interests of the mandate given by the United Nations Security Council”.
