FRELIMO presidential candidate Daniel Chapo met Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare late Thursday to exchange notes on mobilisation of supporters ahead of Mozambique’s general elections set for October.
According the state-run Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Chapo led a high-profile FRELIMO delegation that paid a courtesy call on Mnangagwa at State House in the Zimbabwean capital.
“Speaking to journalists in Portuguese after the meeting, Cde Chapo said ZANU PF and FRELIMO enjoy cordial relations, with two sister liberation movements seeking to share notes on mobilisation of supporters ahead of the October polls,” the broadcaster reported.
Chapo is quoted as saying liberation movements from southern Africa have resolved to work together “whenever there are elections”.
“So, having elections in Mozambique, we will also need technical support in terms of mobilisation and ZANU PF will also be present in Mozambique.”
He added: “Similarly, when there are elections in Zimbabwe, FRELIMO has been here. There have now been elections in South Africa, ZANU PF was in South Africa, FRELIMO was in South Africa.”
Mozambique’s general elections are slated for October 9 this year.
