President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday signed performance-based contracts with cabinet ministers and other senior public servants during a ceremony in Harare that also saw him recognising best-performing officials.
During the ceremony held at State House in the capital, Mnangagwa signed 2024 performance contracts for cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries for government ministries, chief executive officers for parastatals, heads of local authorities, vice chancellors for state universities and other senior government officials.
The performance-based contracts were introduced in 2021 as part of efforts to ensure that citizens get the best service from public office bearers.
Mnangagwa said the contracts are expected to enhance accountability, servant leadership, economic growth and competitiveness in Zimbabwe.
The event also saw high achievers for 2023 being presented with awards. Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka was adjudged the Best Cabinet Minister for the second year running, with Higher Education Minister Amon Murwira as the runner-up.
Permanent secretary for Ministry of Higher Education, Fanuel Tagwira scooped the Best Permanent Secretary award, with Mavis Sibanda from Ministry of Women’s Affairs as runner-up.
The award for the best-performing chief executive for a state-owned enterprise went to T Mhiko of the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority.
