APA – Rabat (Morocco) – Moroccan airports achieved a new record of 12,197,957 passengers handled in the first half of 2023, up 5 percent on the same period in 2019, according to the ‘Office National des Aeroports’ (ONDA).
This development concerns the majority of airports, which recorded double-digit growth rates, namely Tangiers (42 percent), Oujda (32 percent), Nador (25 percent), Fez (17 percent), Agadir (13 percent)
and Marrakech (10 percent), ONDA said in a press release.
With 1.1 million passengers welcomed during the first half of the year, domestic traffic showed a recovery rate of 83 percent compared with the same period in 2019, the same source points out. International air traffic, meanwhile, increased by 7 percent compared with the same period in 2019, with 11.031 million passengers handled.
This development is explained by the good performance recorded by the European and North American markets, with double-digit growth rates of +13 percent and +22 percent respectively.
In addition, ONDA reports that in the first half of 2023, there were 97,071 aircraft movements, representing a recovery rate of 98 percent compared with the same period in 2019. Mohammed V airport accounted
for 38 percent of this traffic, Marrakech Menara 24 percent and Agadir Al Massira 8 percent.
In the first half of 2023, air freight recorded a recovery rate of 76 percent, compared with the same period of 2019, to 37,168 tonnes against 48,696 tonnes recorded during H1-2019.
