In a coordinated operation, elite units from the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) arrested the suspects, aged 21 to 41, in the cities of Sale, Tangier, and Tetouan.
Authorities seized evidence from the suspects’ residences, including electronic devices, bladed weapons, an IS flag, extremist propaganda, and a declaration pledging allegiance to the group. Investigators also uncovered documents promoting “martyrdom operations” and instructions for building explosives.
Initial investigations indicate the suspects were indoctrinated into IS ideology, pledged allegiance to the group’s leader, and planned attacks targeting critical Moroccan infrastructure. Furthermore, the suspects reportedly possessed advanced bomb-making skills and established contact with international IS leaders, aiming to coordinate and claim responsibility for the attacks.
The suspects are currently in custody. The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) is leading the investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office specializing in counterterrorism. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ plans and identify any connections to international terrorist networks.
