The king of Morocco reaffirmed his determination to work together with the Chadian president to strengthen the exemplary relations between Rabat and Ndjamena.
King Mohammed VI sent a message of “good wishes and congratulations” to the President of the Republic of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, on his election to the highest office in his country, following the provisional proclamation of the results of the poll. In his message, the king of Morocco extended his warmest congratulations to Mr. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, wishing him every success in his noble mission. The Moroccan monarch expressed his confidence in this crucial stage of the democratic transition process, underlining the Chadian people’s commitment to their supreme interests and their aspirations for greater progress and prosperity. Recalling the “solid ties of brotherhood, active solidarity and fruitful cooperation between the Republic of Chad and the Kingdom of Morocco,” the King reaffirmed his determination to work “together with the Chadian President to strengthen these exemplary relations in all areas, in the best interests of our two peoples and in the service of peace, unity and sustainable development.” According to the preliminary results announced on Thursday 9 May by the ‘Agence Nationale de Gestion des Elections’ (Election Supervising Body, ANGE) Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno won the first round of votes on 6 May with 61.03 percent. His main opponent, Succes Masra, won 18.53 percent of the votes cast. Mr. Masra has announced an appeal against the results, while calling on his supporters to remain calm.
