King Mohammed VI received, on Wednesday in Rabat, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Royal Cabinet said in a statement.
During this meeting, the UN Secretary General expressed his gratitude to the King for the success of the 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, held in Fez, and welcomed the adoption of a strong and engaging Declaration, more than ever necessary in a troubled international context.
He praised the Sovereign’s ongoing commitment to promoting the values of openness, tolerance, dialogue and respect for differences.
Guterres also praised the kingdom’s constructive and constant contribution to the maintenance and consolidation of peace, the reinforcement of stability and the promotion of development, especially in the African continent.
The Sahara issue was also discussed in the light of UN Security Council Resolution 2654, adopted on October 27.
In this regard, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s constant position for the settlement of this regional dispute on the basis of the autonomy initiative, within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The sovereign reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Stafan De Mistura, to lead the political process, as well as for MINURSO to observe the ceasefire.
