King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences and compassion to Charles III, King of the United Kingdom, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
In this message, the king said he learned with “deep sadness the death of your mother, his majesty Queen Elizabeth II; may she rest in peace.”
On this sad occasion, the king expresses, on his behalf, and that of the royal family and the Moroccan people, to King Charles III, to all members of the august royal family and to the British people his sincere condolences and deep sympathy.
The Moroccan king implores God, the Almighty to grant them strength and comfort in the face of this tragic loss.
In these most difficult circumstances, the monarch recalls, with great esteem, “the qualities and merits of this illustrious queen who stood, invariably, as a symbol of the greatness of the United Kingdom, devoting her entire life to the services of her country.”
“Under the reign of this exceptional queen, the United Kingdom has achieved much progress and prosperity and acquired great stature both regionally and internationally,” the king wrote in the message.
With the passing of Elizabeth II, the Kingdom of Morocco has lost a “great and special friend who was deeply respected,” the king stressed, adding that the Queen “was particularly keen to strengthen the long-standing friendship between our two secular monarchies.”
