The security for the Olympic Games remains an absolute priority for the French authorities, who have called on Moroccan police forces to anticipate and thwart any threats.
To reinforce the security arrangements and ensure optimum protection, France has asked for help from its international partners, including Morocco. A delegation from the Moroccan security services arrived in Paris earlier this week to help secure the 2024 Olympic Games.
The team, made up of explosives experts, liaison officers, analysis and communication specialists and other security experts, is on hand to counter the terrorist threats hanging over the French capital for the duration of this global event, from 26 July to 11 August.
With the opening ceremony fast approaching, the threat of terrorist acts is a source of great concern for the French authorities. The security services are on maximum alert to prevent any incident that could jeopardise the safety of athletes, spectators and staff.
According to French sources, there are persistent fears of a possible attack orchestrated by terrorist cells during the opening ceremony scheduled to take place along the banks of the Seine.
Faced with these threats, some officials have even considered the possibility of moving the opening ceremony from central Paris to a more secure venue, such as the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, an iconic stadium in the Paris region.
However, French President Emmanuel Macron maintains that the ceremony on the banks of the Seine will be an event of ‘beauty and art’.
This collaboration with the Kingdom of Morocco is part of strategic partnerships and lengthy negotiations aimed at pooling resources and skills. The Moroccan experts, appointed by Abdellatif Hammouchi,
Director General of the DGSN-DGST (Directorate General of National Security and Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance), will provide their expertise on the ground to secure not only the sports venues and stadiums, but also the banks of the Seine where the inaugural event will take place.
The members of the Moroccan security delegation, who arrived in Paris earlier this week, represent a wealth of expertise in the detection and neutralisation of explosives.
In addition to these specialists, the delegation also includes liaison and communications officers, essential for coordinating efforts between the various security forces present on the ground.
Their mission is to oversee the safety of spectators and participants, while maintaining a strategic watch on potential threats.
This collaboration is based on solid bilateral relations and strengthened cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organised crime.
Last June, Abdellatif Hammouchi made a working visit to France, where he met with his French counterparts to fine-tune cooperation arrangements. These joint efforts between France and Morocco are helping to strengthen the exchange of intelligence and operational information and to raise the level of preparedness in the face of international extremist and criminal threats.
