On Thursday 2 May in Banjul, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, met Senegal’s Minister for African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall.
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss issues of common interest and the regional situation.
The two ministers explored ways of further developing these relations, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Senegal’s new Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Outside West Africa, Morocco was the only country invited to the swearing-in of Senegal’s fifth president on 2 April. The Cherifian kingdom was represented by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
Ties between Morocco and Senegal cover a wide range of areas, including political, economic, cultural, social and spiritual.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, scheduled for 4 and 5 May in Banjul, and was attended by senior Moroccan and Senegalese representatives.
Previously, Mr Bourita had also held meetings with other counterparts taking part in this Islamic summit, in preparation for the event which will be attended by the heads of state and government of OIC member
countries.
