Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita made this call at the Global Conference on AI and its Role in Implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
The conference, co-chaired by Morocco and the OPCW, brought together over 140 participants from 40 member states to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. Bourita highlighted Morocco’s commitment to using AI for peaceful purposes and strengthening the implementation of the CWC.
Bourita emphasized the need to address the digital divide, noting that only 60 percent of the African population has access to the internet. He called for urgent solutions to overcome this challenge and ensure broader technological inclusion.
Morocco’s AI strategy focuses on responsible and ethical use, balancing regulation with innovation and protecting privacy, cultural diversity, and data ethics. By embracing AI, Morocco aims to contribute to international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and strengthen transparency and trust among nations.
