APA-Rabat (Morocco) – The Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) in Morocco, Ms Patricia Llombart Cussac, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, and Mr Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), signed a partnership project on 3 June.
Entitled “ICC: innovation and diversity, accelerators of development”, this project has a budget of 600,000 euros and is intended for the Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries (FICC).
Morocco is strengthening its cultural sector thanks to the European Union with the signing of a partnership agreement in the kingdom’s economic capital. The ceremony was attended by Mrs Neila Tazi, President of the FICC.
This partnership is an extension of the support programme for Moroccan cultural and creative industries, launched in June 2023, and is a first within the framework of the Morocco-EU partnership, the parties said in a press release to APA.
The four-year project aims to catalyse the development of CCIs in Morocco, focusing on innovation and diversity as drivers of economic growth and job creation.
Through this project, the FICC intends to strengthen its advocacy with businesses and government bodies, promote cultural entrepreneurship and consolidate the legal framework for CCIs, including the status of cultural enterprises.
“Culture, a pillar of dialogue and development, plays a key role in our partnership with Morocco. This project demonstrates our commitment to supporting the structuring of the sector by strengthening advocacy and the legal framework, thereby contributing to the economy and youth employment,” said Ms Llombart Cussac at the signing ceremony.
For his part, Mr Alj stressed the importance of CCIs to the Moroccan economy: “At CGEM, we are aware of the crucial role of CCIs in social and economic development and we are committed to supporting this sector that creates employment opportunities.”
Ms Tazi added: “This agreement with the EU is the fruit of several years of advocacy on behalf of CCIs. It opens up new prospects for a key sector capable of boosting employment and supporting other strategic sectors such as tourism and regional development”.
According to the press release, the project also provides for studies and actions to promote the export of Moroccan cultural products, access to finance, training and a better understanding of the socio-economic impact of CCIs.
He will also support the FICC in its advocacy for the sector, including the organisation of the second edition of the Assises des Industries culturelles et créatives, a flagship event for the future of CCIs in Morocco.
