During a recent meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi, both sides discussed ways to address these challenges and ensure the future of their cooperation.
The recent judgments by the European Court of Justice (CJEU) regarding the legality of agricultural and fishing agreements involving Western Sahara have strained the EU-Morocco relationship. Morocco has strongly criticized these decisions, arguing that they are politically motivated and do not reflect the realities on the ground.
To address these challenges, Morocco is urging the EU to take concrete steps to safeguard the partnership. This includes finding ways to circumvent the CJEU rulings and ensuring that future cooperation is not hindered by such legal obstacles.
Both sides recognize the importance of their partnership, particularly in the areas of trade, security, and migration. They have expressed their intention to work together to overcome the current challenges and strengthen their cooperation for the mutual benefit of both parties.
