Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) has announced that the National Brigade of the Judicial Police arrested Sunday four individuals, including an officer from DGST Regional Directorate in Tangier for their alleged links with international drug and psychotropic drug trafficking networks and disclosure of professional secrecy, complicity, corruption and concealment of wanted persons.
The initial elements of the investigation revealed that the three suspects were active in international drug and psychotropic drug trafficking networks in connection with the cocaine shipment recently seized at the Tangier-Med port, while benefiting from the complicity of the arrested police officer who was covering their criminal activities, in addition to the disclosure of information subject to professional secrecy in exchange for bribery, DGST said in a statement.
The four defendants were placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, with a view to shedding light on the background of this case and determining its alleged national ramifications and international links, the same source said.
Search operations are continuing in order to apprehend all accomplices and seize all proceeds from these criminal activities, it added.
