The suspects were the subject of international arrest warrants issued by US judicial authorities for their alleged links with criminal networks active in international drug trafficking and the laundering of funds resulting from these criminal activities.
The three foreign nationals, aged between 22 and 25, were arrested during simultaneous security operations in Marrakech, as part of the privileged bilateral cooperation between Moroccan and American security services, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.
They had alleged links with criminal cartels operating in international drug trafficking, notably “Fentanyl”, in addition to the laundering of the spoils of this criminal activity.
The suspects were placed in police custody for the purposes of the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, while the National Central Bureau “Interpol Office in Rabat” under the General Directorate for National Security was tasked with notifying its American counterpart of the arrests under the extradition procedure, the statement added.
This latest swoop forms an integral part of international security cooperation relations as well as the efforts made by the Moroccan security services in tracking down people wanted internationally over their roles in transnational crime, the statement concluded.
