The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), OCP Fertilizantes, OCP Nutricrops, and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa) have signed a cooperation agreement to bolster research and development in sustainable agriculture.
The partnership aims to develop innovative solutions to address global food security and environmental sustainability challenges, according to an OCP Group press release. The agreement focuses on joint projects involving the transfer of advanced agricultural technologies, researcher and student training, improved nutrient use efficiency, and the promotion of environmentally friendly farming practices. A key component is fostering knowledge and expertise exchange between Morocco and Brazil, strengthening South-South cooperation.
UM6P President Hicham El Habti emphasized that the partnership aligns with their vision of leveraging science and innovation for the sustainable transformation of agricultural systems. He stated that by mobilizing cutting-edge knowledge and technologies, they are working towards a future where agriculture drives prosperity, resilience, and planetary balance.
Embrapa President Silvia Massruhá highlighted the importance of strategic actions to ensure sustainable food production based on shared resources and technologies. She emphasized Embrapa’s role in influencing both national public policies and international collaboration, recognizing that this is a global issue affecting producers and markets worldwide.
The planned initiatives include developing innovative fertilizers, applying digital agriculture techniques, crop biofortification, and promoting a circular economy within the agricultural sector. A scholarship program will also facilitate academic exchanges and capacity building for researchers and students from both countries.
Marcos Antonio Stelzer, CEO of OCP Fertilizantes, reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the needs of farmers. He expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Embrapa to explore innovative ideas that promote agricultural sustainability and prosperity, both nationally and internationally.
