The 43rd Ordinary and Elective General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) started Friday at the Mohammed VI Football Center in Rabat, in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
During this Assembly, CAF will elect its new president to succeed Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar. South African candidate Patrice Motsepe seems to have already secured the election as head of African football, after a consensus has been reached with the other three candidates.
In fact, during a meeting held on March 6 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the four candidates reiterated that what unites them is much stronger than what could potentially divide them. This is the reason why it was decided that they should join forces and form a team under the leadership of Patrice Motsepe, ahead of the CAF presidential elections, which are slated for March 12 in Rabat, the capital of the kingdom.
This CAF Ordinary and Elective General Assembly will have a busy agenda. The participants will have to examine the progress reports and the report of the Audit Commission, to approve the revised annual accounts and the budget, to designate the auditing body and to review proposals for amendments to the Statutes of CAF and the Rules of Application of the Statutes, as well as the Rules of the General Assembly of CAF.
The Assembly will also elect the President of CAF, members of its Executive Committee, African representatives to the FIFA Council, the President and Vice-President of the Audit and Compliance Committee of CAF, the presidents and vice-presidents of the judicial bodies of CAF and the president and vice-presidents of the Governance Commission.
