Morocco has officially cancelled the Eid al-Adha ritual sacrifice of livestock this year, citing the severe drought that has plagued the country’s agricultural seasons for six consecutive years.
Islamic Affairs Minister Ahmed Toufiq announced the decision in a televised message, emphasizing that it aligns with directives from King Mohammed VI.
The King’s decision comes as Morocco’s economy grapples with the prolonged drought, which has significantly impacted agricultural production. The country is facing numerous challenges due to the lack of rainfall, necessitating measures to ensure local food security.
To meet domestic needs, Morocco has increased its imports of various commodities, including wheat, livestock, and red meat.
