Morocco could receive the first batch of coronavirus vaccines from China starting in December, according Moroccan website Hespress, citing informed sources.
According to the sources, Morocco will schedule 10 flights throughout next month, or two flights per week, to ensure the necessary quantities that will allow citizens to benefit from vaccination, according to a precise and specific program.
Sources confirmed that Morocco will obtain 10 million doses from China via 10 flights, or one million doses per trip, adding that the vaccination will initially target front-line staff, in this case health personnel, public authorities, security forces and national education personnel, as well as the elderly and people vulnerable to the virus.
In the third stage, the vaccination will be generally made available to adults over 44 years, and then extended to the rest of the population, the website reported.
It said about five million people will be vaccinated at the beginning of the campaign, as the doses will arrive gradually, since it is not possible to deliver all at once.
According to Hespress sources, preparations for COVID-19 vaccination are underway, stressing that there are several parties involved in this, and that Morocco is taking it very seriously, especially after instructions to this effect from the monarch.
King Mohammed VI had announced the launching of a massive vaccination campaign against COVID-19, in the coming weeks, on the basis of the opinion rendered by the ad hoc National Scientific Committee.
In a press release, the cabinet had stressed that vaccination is a real response to end the acute phase of the pandemic.
Thus, the kingdom will be among the first countries to vaccinate its citizens.
