APA – Rabat (Morocco) – In keeping with its tradition of solidarity with the Palestinians, Morocco has launched a food distribution operation to help the Gaza Strip, whose inhabitants are living in deplorable conditions at the start of the month of Ramadan.
In an unprecedented move, this humanitarian aid, consisting of 40 tonnes of food, will be delivered by road directly to the beneficiaries in order to alleviate their suffering, which has been exacerbated by the armed confrontations of the last five months.
Particular attention will be paid to the most vulnerable sections of the population.
According to the Moroccan Foreign Ministry, King Mohammed VI has personally financed a large part of this humanitarian aid particularly for babies and young children.
The ministry pointed out that Morocco is the first country to use this unprecedented overland route to deliver humanitarian aid directly to Gaza beneficiaries.
In Jerusalem, King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, has instructed the Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency (under the authority of the Committee) to provide food aid consisting of 2,000 food baskets for as many families in the holy city, in addition to 1,000 meals to be served daily to Palestinians there.
Morocco’s humanitarian aid also includes an emergency coordination room, which will be placed at the disposal of the Jerusalem hospital.
This humanitarian gesture towards the Palestinians is the culmination of a long tradition of solidarity rooted in Morocco’s approach to the Palestinian issue, a policy that puts its money where its mouth is.
In the past, this tradition has been reflected in the deployment of a medical-surgical field hospital in Gaza in 2018 and the inauguration of a specialised hospital donated by Morocco in 2021.
More recently, in October last year, the king of Morocco ordered the dispatch of emergency humanitarian aid to the Palestinians when the war in Gaza broke out.
In Palestine, Morocco’s gesture of solidarity was greatly appreciated.
“We warmly welcome this noble gesture, an initiative recognised by HM King Mohammed VI,” Mahmoud El Habach, the Palestinian president’s adviser on religious affairs, told the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP).
