Banjul-Rabat ties are being strengthened by a new dynamic of cooperation in the field of education.
A memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of the Gambia in the field of higher education was officially signed on Monday in Banjul.
The main objective of the agreement is to promote the mobility of students, researchers and graduate students between the two nations.
The document was initialed by Abdellatif Miraoui, Moroccan Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and Pierre Gomez, Gambian Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technological Innovation. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and supporting bilateral cooperation, in particular through the exchange of best practices and sharing of experiences in the context of the Plan to Accelerate the Transformation of the Higher Education Ecosystem (PACTE ESRI-2030).
The main objectives of the memorandum include improving skills through the mobility of students, researchers and doctoral candidates, strengthening human capital training as a fundamental lever for sustainable development in Africa, and improving the quality of teaching, particularly in the field of digital skills and information technology.
On the occasion of this event, Mr. Miraoui, who is on an official visit to The Gambia at the head of a large delegation, stressed that King Mohammed VI places the issue of human capital at the heart of Morocco’s strategic priorities and considers it a central pillar of cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Ahmed Belhaj, Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in The Gambia, and members of the Moroccan delegation.
As part of the visit, the Moroccan and Gambian university presidents also held a meeting to examine ways of strengthening bilateral academic cooperation and to consider initiatives to promote student and faculty exchanges.
