Egypt and Morocco have evaluated the second phase of their cooperation project in the fight against illicit small arms and light weapons.
Morocco was honoured in Cairo on Sunday in recognition of its efforts to support cooperation between the League of Arab States and the European Union (EU) in the fight against trafficking and illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the League’s member states.
This tribute was also paid to Jordan and the United Arab Emirates on the fringes of the meeting marking the end of the second phase of the Arab States-EU cooperation project on “Combating the trafficking and illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the Member States of the Arab League.”
This award is in recognition of Morocco’s efforts to support this cooperation by hosting the first programmes implemented under the second phase of the cooperation project between the two parties in ‘combating trafficking and illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the Member States of the Arab League’ and by hosting the first regional workshop in Tangiers in 2022, as well as national training sessions in Rabat.
Organised by the Directorate of Arms Control and Disarmament – Political Affairs Sector of the Arab League, in cooperation with the EU and the partners responsible for the implementation of the project, in particular Interpol and the World Customs Organisation, this two-day meeting is the fruit of the existing cooperation between the two parties, based on their conviction of the importance of coordination and joint efforts between regional and international organisations to put an end to the illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons.
