Morocco and Israel, on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in Rabat, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of innovation, scientific research and technology.
This memorandum, signed at a ceremony chaired by the Moroccan Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, and the Israeli Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Orit Farkash-Hacohen, aims to strengthen bilateral relations and establish cooperative links between Moroccan academic institutions and their Israeli counterparts in the scientific and technological fields, as well as develop joint research programs in priority sectors for both countries, said a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
In a speech made on this occasion, Abdellatif Miraoui highlighted the importance of this memorandum to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation relations in the fields of scientific research and innovation, through the rapprochement between the academic institutions of the two countries, the exchange of expertise and experience and encouraging the mobility of students and researchers.
This initiative, he added, is an opportunity to develop scientific research programs in areas of common interest, such as green energy, sustainable agriculture, health and modern industries.
The Israeli minister said that this agreement, which is part of the “Joint Declaration” of December 22, 2020, opens promising prospects for bilateral cooperation.
“We will work together to address common challenges in several areas, through the consolidation of cooperation in the sectors of renewable energy, science and water technology, in addition to issues related to health and climate change,” she assured.
She added that the new era of cooperation that is emerging will allow both countries to pool their efforts to meet common challenges in areas raising issues of sustainability and competitiveness (water, environment, renewable energy, mobility, health, new technologies …).
