APA-Rabat (Morocco) The Moroccan people and the family of the Resistance and the Liberation Army, this Thursday, commemorate the 80 years of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto. This event, a source of pride and national mobilization, marks a glorious epic in the history of the national struggle for independence and the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.
This commemoration has a profound significance for the younger generations, symbolizing the high values of national awakening and the solid symbiosis between the Throne and the people in the defense of national values, while looking with confidence and serenity to the future. It also provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the bravery of national resistance fighters and members of the Liberation Army who sacrificed themselves to liberate the homeland from the yoke of colonialism, thus preserving the dignity and pride of the Moroccan people.
This glorious anniversary harks back to the history of Moroccan resistance over the centuries, marked by the Kingdom’s determination, courage and heroism in the face of the expansionist ambitions of the foreign occupier since the beginning of the previous century. The latter had ended up dividing the country into colonial zones, with the French protectorate in the center, Spanish occupation in the north and south, and the city of Tangier remaining under international rule.
The Independence Manifesto, presented on January 11, 1944, included major political demands, such as Moroccan independence under the reign of the legitimate Sovereign Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef, and Moroccan accession to the Atlantic Charter. The second set of demands concerned internal politics, with the Sultan’s determination to undertake major reforms, backed by a Shura political system similar to that of Arab and Islamic countries, aimed at protecting the rights and duties of all sections of Moroccan society.
This historic Manifesto was a real national revolution, testifying to the patriotism of all Moroccans and their spirit of sacrifice and mobilization.
