As at the beginning of each Ramadan, King Mohammed VI of Morocco launched the “Ramadan 1445” operation in Rabat on Wednesday, which will involve the distribution of basic foodstuffs to one million of the neediest households, a total of 5 million people.
This operation, which has been organised for 25 years by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, represents a tradition of generosity and solidarity during the blessed month of Ramadan.
It is the perfect expression of a feeling of constant solidarity with people in vulnerable social situations, and at the same time enshrines the values of sharing and mutual aid that underpin Moroccan society.
To carry out this operation, which the King of Morocco launches every year, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has mobilised a budget of 347 million dirhams (20.7 billion CFA francs) to distribute 34,550 tonnes of food products (flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, vermicelli, lentils and tea).
It is aimed particularly at the most vulnerable social categories, including widows, the elderly and people with disabilities. 74% of the 5 million beneficiaries of this operation live in rural areas.
The Foundation has set up more than 1,300 distribution points in 83 different provinces, staffed by thousands of people, including social workers and volunteers who will ensure that the food aid is delivered to the heads and representatives of the beneficiary families.
Since the launch of this food aid operation in 1998, the Foundation has mobilised a total budget of more than 2 billion dirhams (120 billion CFA francs).
