Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Akhannouch emphasized Morocco’s consistent position, as reiterated by King Mohammed VI, that any political solution must be achieved through the UN-led round table process, with the full participation of Algeria. He also insisted that the Moroccan autonomy initiative is the only viable path forward and that armed militias must return to the ceasefire.
Akhannouch highlighted the growing international support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the autonomy plan, stating that this sends a clear message to all parties involved. He emphasized that a solution based on these principles is essential for regional development and stability.
The Prime Minister expressed Morocco’s support for the UN Secretary-General’s efforts to relaunch the political round table process and reach a compromise solution in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2703.
Akhannouch also highlighted the significant development taking place in the Moroccan Sahara, thanks to large-scale projects implemented under the new development model for the southern provinces. He emphasized the active participation of local populations in political and socio-economic life, reflecting their commitment to Morocco’s territorial integrity.
