APA – Rabat (Morocco) Morocco has reiterated its “deep concern and indignation” at the resurgence of military action and the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
In a press release, the Ministry said that “more than three weeks after the outbreak of military confrontations, civilians are still being targeted, with thousands of children and women killed and tens of thousands wounded, homeless and missing, adding that places of worship, hospitals and refugee camps are still being bombed, the latest being the Jabalya camp.”
The text goes on to say that the firing of missiles and shells against civilian installations is increasing at random, forcing more than a million people to move and depriving the population of water, electricity and fuel, thus creating a catastrophic humanitarian situation.
The Kingdom affirms that “all these Israeli acts of escalation are in contradiction with international humanitarian law and common human values, and warn of a spread of the conflict within the Palestinian territories and of the dangerous widening of the perimeter of violence to affect neighbouring areas, thus threatening the security and stability of the entire region,” the ministry stresses.
Morocco, it adds, “can only express its regret and disappointment at the inaction of the international community, the failure of the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and the inability of influential countries to put an end to this catastrophic situation.”
While reiterating its support for the Palestinian National Authority and its national institutions, under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, Morocco calls for “a de-escalation leading to a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors capable of facilitating the entry of aid in a rapid, sustainable and unhindered manner, as well as the release of prisoners and detainees, with the obligation to open up a political perspective to the Palestinian question enabling the two-State solution to be re-launched, as agreed by the international community.”
