APA – Rabat (Morocco) – On Thursday, a Royal Navy deep-sea patrol boat intercepted a pirogue off Dakhla, a town in southern Morocco, carrying 75 would-be illegal migrants, all of Senegalese nationality, according to a military source.
The pirogue set sail on 12 August 2023 from the Senegalese coast, bound for Spain, the source added.
Those rescued were given the necessary treatment before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, it added.
Every week, or even every day, many would-be illegal migrants are rescued by Moroccan naval personnel. The distance between Morocco and Spain is just 14 km.
Many would-be migrants who want to reach Europe see it as a fast and privileged gateway.
