Senega, a staunch supporter of Moroccan Sahara, has inaugurated a Consulate General in Dakhla.
The opening on Monday of this Consulate General by Senegal in Dakhla, the pearl of the southern Moroccan provinces, comes as no surprise, since the West African country is one of Morocco’s best allies in Africa.
The inauguration ceremony of this diplomatic representation was chaired by the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita and his Senegalese counterpart, Ms. Aissata Sall Tall, in the presence of the Senegalese diplomatic corps accredited in the Kingdom and members of the Senegalese community residing in the city.
This is the 10th diplomatic representation opened in Dakhla after those of Djibouti, The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In addition, eleven Consulates General have been opened in Laayoune, the capital of the southern Moroccan provinces. They include the Union of the Comoros, Gabon, the Central African Republic, Burundi, Zambia, Sao Tome and Principe, Cote d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Jordan, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the representative of the Consul General of Senegal in Laayoune, Cheikhou Sidy Lamine Diakhate, this “confirms the Moroccan character of the Sahara,” adding that the Senegalese consulate in Dakhla “is very close to the borders and it will facilitate the granting of administrative documents.”
“This diplomatic structure comforts the longstanding relations between the two countries. We are very proud that Senegal confirms the Moroccan character of the Sahara,” he said in a statement to APA.
For Mame Gora, a Senegalese national based in Dakhla, “this consulate represents a lot of things for us insofar as it will facilitate the regularization of administrative documents.”
Insisting that he is very “happy” for the inauguration of this diplomatic representation, he also declared that members of the Senegalese community live in an atmosphere of conviviality with Moroccans who are very “welcoming.”
The latter’s words were echoed by Adama Diack, the president of Senegal’s women living in Dakhla. She thanked King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Macky Sall for the opening of this Consulate General, which will streamline administrative procedures.
“Dakhla is the door to Africa and for the Senegalese community having to go to Morocco by land, it is a Moroccan city, which will allow them to regulate their administrative affairs and facilitate the conditions of their stay.”
