The agreements were signed during a meeting between the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and his Senegalese counterpart, Malick Ndiaye.
The National Railways Office (ONCF) of Morocco and the National Management Company of the Regional Express Train (SEN-TER-SA) of Senegal signed one agreement. Another was signed between the Institut de Formation Ferroviaire (IFF) and SEN-TER-SA.
Both ministers expressed satisfaction with existing bilateral links in the transport sector and emphasized their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation, particularly in the rail sector. They explored opportunities for cooperation in areas such as railway maintenance, road and air transport, and road safety.
A working group will be established to monitor the implementation of the agreements and ensure that the recommendations of the meeting are followed up. Additionally, Abdeljalil invited Ndiaye to attend the 4th World Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech in February 2025.
The Senegalese delegation’s visit to Morocco included field visits to Tangier, Fez, and Rabat to learn about high-speed train maintenance and the Moroccan railway industry. Abdeljalil highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the transport sector, emphasizing the need for improved networking and communication.
Ndiaye noted that Senegal could benefit from Morocco’s experience and best practices in the railway sector. The meeting was part of a wider official visit by the Senegalese delegation to Morocco.
