APA-Rabat (Morocco) – The two parties highlighted the “unique opportunities for cooperation that are opening up for the two neighbouring countries.”
On Wednesday in Rabat, King Mohammed VI received the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, who is on a working visit to the kingdom.
“This visit is part of the continuity of the new phase in bilateral relations, which has been underway since the meeting between the Moroccan sovereign and the President of the Spanish Government, in April 2022, and the adoption, on that occasion, of the joint declaration between the two countries,” says a press release from the royal cabinet.
“This new dynamic is developing satisfactorily. It is marked by the strengthening of cooperation, coordination and partnership in all areas, based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, good neighbourliness and respect for commitments,” it adds.
On this occasion, the President of the Spanish government “reiterated Spain’s position, contained in the joint declaration of April 2022, considering the Moroccan autonomy initiative to be the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving this dispute. The king thanked Spain for this new constructive and important position.”
The two parties emphasised the “unique opportunities for cooperation that are opening up for the two neighbouring countries. The joint organisation – with Portugal – of the 2030 football World Cup is an
additional lever for strengthening bilateral relations.”
The head of the Spanish government also welcomed Spain’s interest in the strategic initiatives launched by the king of Morocco, in particular the African Atlantic Initiative, the Royal Initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean for the countries of the Sahel, and the Nigeria-Morocco African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline, the press
release said.
