Aerodrive Engineering Services, a Moroccan company specializing in drone technology, announced the milestone on LinkedIn, highlighting the drone’s capabilities for surveillance, intelligence, target acquisition, and reconnaissance. The development marks a culmination of months of rigorous testing and showcases the company’s dedication to creating a state-of-the-art unmanned aerial system.
The successful launch aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on foreign arms imports and build a self-sufficient military industrial base. King Mohammed VI has championed this initiative, promoting the creation of local defense industries.
To further bolster this effort, the Moroccan government has established two “defense industrial acceleration zones” and allocated a significant portion of the 2024 budget to defense spending. These initiatives aim to modernize the Royal Armed Forces and foster the growth of Morocco’s national defense industry.
While Morocco’s military power ranks 61st globally, it boasts a strong artillery force and has made substantial investments in recent years to modernize its military capabilities. The successful launch of the Atlas Istar is a testament to Morocco’s growing expertise in drone technology and its commitment to military self-sufficiency.
