In New York, Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held the first session of the High-Level Strategic Dialogue, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the General Assembly.
Morocco reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the fight against terrorism, by adhering to the multilateral frameworks of the United Nations. This strategic partnership, consolidated during the High-Level Strategic Dialogue co-chaired by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of UNOCT, marks a crucial step for regional security in Africa.
At the podium of the UN General Assembly, Aziz Akhannouch, head of the Moroccan government, highlighted the Kingdom’s position on the conflict in the Middle East, calling for a definitive solution rather than perpetual crisis management. This position is part of a broader vision of peace and security, in which Morocco positions itself as a key player.
The Strategic Dialogue has produced concrete results, including the institutionalization of this annual dialogue, ensuring regular monitoring of joint initiatives and a continuous assessment of the security needs of African States. The central role of the UNCT Programme Office in Rabat was highlighted, with an emphasis on the specialized training provided to African security forces, thanks to Morocco’s support.
Two major conferences were announced: one on maritime security and the fight against terrorism along the African Atlantic coast, scheduled for December 2024, and the other, the Forum of Beneficiaries of Technical Assistance, next November in Rabat. These events demonstrate Morocco’s central role in promoting regional security and its commitment to mobilizing the necessary resources to support collective efforts against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.
In conclusion, Morocco, through its actions and commitments, positions itself as a pillar of stability and security in Africa, demonstrating once again its leadership and strategic vision in the fight against terrorism.
