This year’s African Lion, designated as the largest military exercise in Africa, reinforces interoperability among participating armies. The exercise concludes on May 31st.
Following directives from King Mohammed VI, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) partnered with the US Armed Forces to organize this significant event. The official opening ceremony, held at the Southern Zone Headquarters in Agadir, included representatives from the participating nations.
Major General Mohammed Benlouali and Major General Todd R. Wasmund co-chaired the ceremony, outlining the exercise scenario and planned activities. Roughly 7,000 military personnel from 20 countries, alongside NATO contingents, are involved in the maneuvers.
Both General Benlouali and General Wasmund commended the two decades of successful collaboration between Morocco and the United States. General Wasmund expressed gratitude to the FAR for their unwavering commitment.
Spanning across various Moroccan regions, African Lion 24 encompasses a diverse range of activities. These include tactical exercises, specialized operations, airborne operations, counter-weapons of mass destruction drills, and medical and surgical services provided in Akka.
The enduring partnership between the FAR and the US Armed Forces is solidified by African Lion 2024, which not only strengthens interoperability but also maintains its position as the largest military exercise on the African continent.
