Morocco has welcomed the decision by Peru to withdraw its recognition of the so-called “Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic” – taken a year ago, and to support the territorial integrity of the kingdom and its autonomy initiative, the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This decision follows a phone conversation that the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, had with his Peruvian counterpart, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Mackay.
The kingdom appreciates and welcomes the decision, which opens a new page in the relations with Peru.
It will allow the deepening of political dialogue and the strengthening of sectoral cooperation, especially in the fields of agriculture and fertilizers.
In this context, concrete actions will be carried out very quickly, the release noted.
Thanks to the actions carried out in recent years, many countries have withdrawn their Sahrawi recognition.
Thus, of the 193 member countries of the United Nations, 84 percent do not recognise RASD, that’s two thirds of African countries, 68 percent of Latin American and Caribbean countries, 96 percent of Asian countries and 100 percent of European and North American countries, the ministry concluded.
