As is customary for the opening of each legislative year, the Sovereign will deliver an address to the members of both Houses of Parliament, which will be broadcast live on radio and television starting at 4:40 PM local time.
Traditionally, the Moroccan Sovereign opens the new legislative session on the second Friday in October.
Members of Parliament are required to wear traditional attire, in accordance with the procedural guidelines of the Chamber of Counsellors and the Chamber of Representatives.
In last year’s address, the King addressed several challenges, including the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region on September 8. He expressed his admiration for the solidarity displayed by Moroccans, who rallied to assist those affected in various ways. Many volunteers stepped forward to provide food, equipment, clothing, and blankets to support families in need.
Discussing the theme of tolerance, the Sovereign commended Morocco’s example of coexistence among Muslims, Christians, and Jews. “We are a country that duly respects different faiths and cultures,” the King remarked, underlining that the national values upon which the Moroccan nation is built are rooted in the monarchy.
