APA-Rabat (Morocco) A Moroccan royal navy patrol boat on Wednesday launched two separate operations, to rescue two pirogues carrying 131 distressed sub-Saharan would-be migrants stranded about 50km northeast of the coastal town of Laâyoune .
They rescued included 27 women and eight minors.
The pirogues were on their way to the Canary Islands, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a statement.
The migrants received first aid medical attention while on board the navy boats before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for mandatory administrative procedures, the statement added.
