APA-Rabat (Morocco) On 29 and 30 January, the Moroccan security services dismantled a four-member terrorist network in the cities of Tangiers, Casablanca, Beni Mellal and Inzegane, which was active in recruiting and sending fighters to join the Islamic State (IS) branch in the Sahel-Saharan region.
According to the ‘Bureau Central d’Investigations Judiciaires’ (BCIJ), investigations revealed that this network was coordinating with leaders of this organisation in the Sahel-Saharan region with a view to facilitating extremists to join this zone.
Searches of the suspects’ homes led to the seizure of several electronic devices, sums of money, bladed weapons in the form of large sabres, balaclavas, gloves and a rifle, according to a BCIJ press release.
Those arrested were taken into custody as part of the investigation being conducted by the BCIJ, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of terrorism and extremism, to determine their links with terrorist organisations abroad and to reveal any terrorist plans or undertakings.
The suspects will be brought to justice as soon as the investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, is completed, the same source concludes.
