APA-Rabat (Morocco) – The festivities take place from 27 to 30 April in collaboration with Morocco’s Ministry of Culture and the city of Tangiers.
Tangiers will be the first city in Africa to host International Jazz Day 2024, according to a 20 March 2024 press release from the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has chosen Tangiers as the global host city for the event, marking a first for the African continent.
Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, said that this designation would make Tangiers the centre of this major world event dedicated to jazz.
The festivities will take place from 27 to 30 April in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Morocco and the municipality of Tangiers, highlighting the city’s jazz heritage and the cultural links between the kingdom, Europe and Africa.
The major world concert, conducted by Herbie Hancock and John Beasley, will take place at the Palais des Arts et de la Culture and will be broadcast online, giving this emblematic event a global reach.
