Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has congratulates his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, for his re-election in the presidential elections held on 08 May, APA can report on Tuesday.
In a message to the President-elect, emailed to APA on Tuesday, Nyusi said he was very pleased with the election of his counterpart to the post of President of the South Africa following the 6th general election.
“Your election reflects the confidence that the South African people place in your wise leadership to continue to propel the country and the South African people toward greater prosperity and well-being,” reads Nyusi’s message.
He added: “I take this opportunity, on behalf of the People, of the government of the Mozambique and on my own, to extend our sincere congratulations to you, Mr. President, on the election to the highest office and to the people of South Africa for the form orderly, peaceful and transparent manner in which it exercised its democratic right.”
The results of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) indicate that the ANC won the elections with a total of 10,026,475 valid votes corresponding to 57.50 per cent, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) that managed to poll 3,621,188, which represents 20.77 of the electorate and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 1,881,521, or 10.79 percent.
Some 28 million voters were called to decide the country’s future at the polls and the ANC returned to the confidence of the South Africans.
President Nyusi said South Africans should be commended for the peace that prevailed over the election process.
He has also expressed his commitment to working with President Ramaposa’s government to enhance bilateral relations between Mozambique and South Africa.
