Mozambique’s state-owned power utility Electricidade de Mocambique (EDM) on Monday renewed a contract for the supply of electricity to Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) for another year.
Under the deal, EDM would supply 35 megawatts (MW) of power to LEC, accounting for about 20 percent of Lesotho’s monthly consumption.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Maputo on Monday, EDM chief executive Aly Sicola said the power trading agreement has been in existence since 2008.
“Today we renew the contract that lasts for a renewable year as the parties understand that the business should continue,” he said.
LEC chief executive Victor Ketso said the agreement would ensure Lesotho has adequate and reliable supply of electricity.
