The son of Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni, who is a general in the military has apologised to Kenya weeks after causing a stir with his tweet about invading the country, APA can report on Friday.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba who has since been demoted as a commander of the Ugandan ground forces by his father admitted he had made a mistake and asked to be forgiven by new Kenyan president William Ruto who he described as his elder brother.
“If I made a mistake anywhere, I ask him to forgive me as his young brother” General Muhoozi said.
Widely regarded as Museveni’s favourite to succeed him as president, General Muhoozi caused consternation among Kenyans when he joked in a tweet earlier this month that the Ugandan army could invade Kenya and take the capital Nairobi within weeks.
Viewed as offensive in Kenya, many of its citizens were apparently bemused by the audacity of the tweet while others condemned it as a misguided joke by a Ugandan army General who was acting like a maverick.
President Museveni himself had gone on a damage limitation exercise by apologising to Kenya on behalf of the 48-year-old.
