The son of Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has announced his retirement from the army in a tweet seen on Tuesday.
Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is widely seen as Museveni’s ultimate successor to the Ugandan presidency said he was retiring “after 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world”.
His 77-year old father had ruled Uganda since 1986.
Kainerugaba, 47, recently raised eyebrows when he voiced support for Russia over its armed invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.
He was trained at the British military academy Sandhurst, US, South Africa and Egypt,
